spot the LaTeX mistake

It took me forever to spot the (obvious) mistake in the following LaTeX formula

[sourcecode gutter=”false”]

\int \exp\[ -\{ (n+\sigma^{-2})\mu^2 -2n\mu{\bar x_n} + n ({\bar x_n})^2 \}/2 \]

[/sourcecode]

Can you find it?!

  1. \[ means something different ..
    How is your thumb?

  2. \int and \exp !! I might avoid using [ ] in a complex mathematical expression not to get confused.. thanks!

  3. it’s the {} instead of _{ } just after \mu ?

I think your \[ and \] will give you problems. You should just use [ and ].

  7. p.s. … how is the hand?

  8. I’m pretty sure \[ won’t do what you want it to, in here. To say nothing of the \]

    Isn’t “\[” (and “\]”) just “[” (and “]”) in LaTex?

I guess that the \[ is not in the beginning as it should be..
