10th international Purdue symposium on Statistics

Thrice alas, I was dearly hoping to join the 10th international Purdue symposium on Statistics next June, but due to too many work- and home-front constraints in this period, I had to cancel my participation to this meeting and hence miss a rare opportunity to return for the first time since 1993 to a place that radically impacted my entire career, through a visiting position (an earlier version of a postdoc!) at Purdue in the academic year of 1987-1988 and thanks to an invitation from Jim Berger. (I found out at this occasion that the Lafayette airport no longer operates for regular flights!) It would have been great to return to the “crime scene” and check whether some of the few landmarks of West Lafayette are still standing (like Von’s Bookshop which I was visiting at least once a week!), but not this time.
