![After decades in the making, the reference book about reference priors, by Jim Berger, José Bernardo, and Dongchu Sun [all long-time friends of mine] is now out!](https://i0.wp.com/xianblog.fr/wp-content/uploads/2024/06/temp-e1717848453826.webp?resize=450%2C635&ssl=1)

As Wittgenstein would say: I hope the first chapter is devoted to define what is “objective”.

Also: Interesting choice of publisher. I looked at one of their journals, and the editor in chief has an issue with him as co-author in all but one article. I am willing to bet that this is a borderline predatory publisher.
I want to read this book because it has Berger’s name on it, but I am very suspicious of the publishing venue. I think that something is seriously wrong here.
Related: I have seen Gelman and Betancourt publishing in Entropy, which I thought was an absolutely insane choice as it is run by a predatory publisher.

I am not trying to play devil’s advocate, but I consider that the fact that the publisher dabbles in borderline journals does not impact the quality of the book. (Actually the same applies for any paper: get your own idea and make your own opinion by reading it provided you can access the paper without supporting the ppublisher…)

I guess in any case, which publisher is not predatory? Springer, Wiley, Elsevier… at the end of the day, one might as well publish in arXiv and be done with it.

When you consider it was 25 years in the making, it corresponds to a reward of one cent a day!
