Actually, I learned later that a second group of runners had been allowed to take part in the race and that some ran faster than I, hence taking my third place. Another twist is that one of these runners was Jérémie Houssineau, a former colleague at Warwick and a friend, whom I met later during a Fusion 2024 break!
