wood and orphan bears

On the trail to Burgess Pass,we passed this wooden structure that had something bearish in it (at least in my short-sighted view!).

And the day after, saw this 21 year old grizzly bear in an orphan bear refuge where he had spent most of his life after his mother was killed by a hunter. Magnificent animal, sadly kept captive his entire life in one hundredth of his natural habitat.

Sad story.
We have another story, up here in Vermont (USA).
There was a mother bear on our property. Without permission, someone drove by, saw the bear, trespassed and shot the bear. Came back and loaded it and took the bear away. The cub was found later, dead.

Very sad. The grizzly rehabilitation centre in Golden (BC) was telling us that nowadays they aim at keeping the cubs in the wild, as otherwise they can never set them free…
