Thalys static

[When returning from Brussels, after the privaCI workshop, I happened to sit in the Thalys train to Paris, next to three French (?) lobbyists (??) discussing very loudly about the specifics of their trade, apparently acting for the main agriculture union FNSEA (???) model of industrial and intensive agriculture at the European Commission or Parliement in Brussels. Annoyingly so, making me regret my bargain first class ticket. Here are a few sentences from one of their phone calls:]

[While flying to Venezia, two art professionals were sitting in front of me, talking the entirety of the flight in a rather affected way.]

eurostar static

It was most refreshing to hear the (very quiet) conversation of an Australian family sitting in the Eurostar to Paris across me, after being submitted, while waiting to board the train, to an horrid phone conversation of a father (?!) with his teenage child trying to be excused from a math test the same afternoon. (The  level of the insults launched at the child would have qualified as child abuse. And cannot be printed here!)

[After entering the very first tunnel, a few minutes after departure] Are we entering France now?

[While still in England] Are we going to see the sea?

[Once in Northern France, crossing the wheat fields of Le Nord] This is very green, but where is the cattle?

Heard while (safely and slowly) passing a group of pedestrians on a shared green-way, south of Paris:

which roughly translates as “One of these days, I will kill all people.” And whose meaning (if any) escapes me.

métro static

gare RER de Sceaux, May14, 2012[During a particularly painful métro trip, a man kept talking and talking in a very aggressive and somewhat incoherent manner. It is not until the end of the ride that I realised he was speaking on the phone to a relative… and not to an inexistent other self!]
