During the European Heritage Days this year we visited the Ministère des Outre-Mer, an 17th Century Hôtel whose original owner, Count of Montmorin, ended up on a pike in the early days of the French Revolution. This is a beautiful, well-preserved building, with a large garden in the centre of Paris, but it seems to be mostly a monument for pomp and cicumstances, offering little in the way of actual utility!
